Is Youngster.co a school Volunteering or Work Experience program?
We offer both volunteering and paid work.
If you’re part of a work experience program, after you complete it, you can continue on as a paid Youngster.
Can participation in the work experience program contribute to community service awards?
Yes, your total number of volunteer hours completed can go towards community service awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh award.
How tech savvy do I need to be?
No prior experience or technical skills are needed.
If you can make a social media account, set up a new phone, or create a Gmail account, you already have the skills you need. We’ll provide all the additional training you need.
What are the requirements to become a Youngster?
To become a Youngster, you must be at least 16 years old and have a National Police Check, be friendly and willing to help. To graduate to individual sessions, you must be at least 18 years old.
Can I choose to do Group Sessions only?
Yes. Pick and choose the sessions you’d like to do, there’s no requirement to do both. We may get you to attend some training sessions to qualify for one-on-one sessions.
Are there perks to being a Youngster?
Yes! As a Youngster, you’ll have the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience that will benefit you in your future career.
You’ll receive hands-on learning and training that will help you develop your communication, problem-solving, and technical skills, as well as your ability to work with people from different generations.
After completing ten sessions, you’ll be eligible for a scholarship to take online courses run by Google. Upon successful completion of these courses, you’ll be able to interview with top companies like Canva, AIG, Woolworths Group, and Google.
Is it safe for students under 18 to participate in the work experience program?
Yes, is it safe! All students under 18 are accompanied by a responsible adult with a Working With Children Check.
We also monitor student and senior feedback ratings to ensure that all participants have a positive and safe experience. If any issues or concerns arise, we have established channels for complaints to addressed.
What kind of tech support do you offer?
We offer a wide range of tech support services, including phone skills, setting up new phones, general iPad or computer use, and help with specific tech problems. We help with anything tech-related, on any touch phone, iPad or laptop computer.
How much do Youngsters get paid?
We pay above award. There’s different rates for Normal Youngsters, Lead Youngsters, and for 1:1 sessions.
You’ll also receive bonuses for receiving 4-star or higher ratings from Seniors.

Are students paid or volunteers during the work experience program?
Students in the school work experience program are volunteers.
If you complete 10 volunteering sessions you’re eligible for paid work with us outside of the school program.
Is there any support provided to me as a Youngster?
Yes, we provide ongoing support and training to ensure you feel confident and comfortable in your role. You’ll also have the support of a Lead Youngster.
How long are sessions?
Session groups are two hours long, and are in a public space like a library or shopping centre.
One-on-one session typically last for one hour and are at the Senior’s home, cafe or a shared space.
